About the Author
Erno Lendvai was born in 1925 in Kaposvar, Hungary and died suddenly in Budapest in 1993. From 1949-56 he was director of the Szombathely, Gyor Conservatoire, and professor at the Music Academy in Budapest. From 1960-65 he was musical director of Hungarian Radio and Television. He became one of the most important Hungarian music theoreticians in the twentieth century. He became known worldwide through his detailed research into the internal structure of Bartok's music, a study that he started shortly after the composer's death.

Fundaments of post-romantic music

I have been a lifelong student of composition, and this book opened up a whole new realm of musical thought for me. There are brilliant observations regarding chromatic tonality, atonality, and structure that (although they are presented largely in the context of an analysis of Bartok's music) shed light on the development and future of modern music in general.

The book serves also as a fitting tribute to Bartok, a genius who all too often is written off as merely the modern adaptor of Hungarian folk-song. In this book the author demonstrates how the folk-song interest, and other fundamental Bartok building blocks, have a deep basis in the fundaments of life and the world.

If you've known Bartok's music speaks to you in ways you can't explain or understand, or if you just want to wrap your head around one of the most important contributions to the development of music in the modern era, then this book is for you.

I hope this review is more helpful than the one below, which seems to be more of a jumble of random thoughts, most of which appear to be associated with some other, more biographical work.

The Thank You Book

My girls have been fans of the Elephant & Piggie series for about five years. We have almost all of the books in the series; they have helped all three of them learn to read. We were very sad when we heard that The Thank You Book would be the last Elephant & Piggie book, and we were looking forward to one last funny story with Piggie and Gerald.

As The Thank You Book begins, Piggie declares that she is going to thank everyone who has helped her. Gerald worries that she is going to forget someone, but Piggie insists that she will not.

And then Piggie proceeded to thank every secondary character in the entire series, and I tried not to cry. They are all there, and fans of the series (like my girls) will enjoy seeing familiar friends. Gerald continues to worry that Piggie will forget someone- who could she possibly be forgetting that thank?

The illustrations are relatively simple. Gerald and Piggie appear against a plain white background, and this places an emphasis on their facial expressions and body language. Gerald and Piggie communicate with each other via voice bubbles; the book consists of a conversation between the two friends and their acquaintances.

I would recommend The Thank You Book to fans of the Elephant & Piggie series. My girls laughed as they recognized all of Elephant and Piggie’s friends. If you aren’t familiar with the series, this probably is not the best book to start with because you won’t understand why Piggie is thanking all of these other animals. If that is the case, I would suggest starting with any of the other books- they are all funny books ideal for beginning readers.

My girls and I are not sure what Mo Willems has planned next, but we are looking forward to it.

Mo I love, Mo I will miss you.

Mo I love you...Mo I hate you...

Well, not really hate, but to think that never again will I rip open another box to see my two favorite characters smiling out at me. To hold up a new book in front of a class and hear cheers and applause. These two friends are simply beautiful. As an elementary school librarian I delight in introducing these two characters to my early readers. At our Spanish immersion school the stories are perfect for either our English or Spanish speakers with simple, but sweet story lines and illustrations that transcend language.

For the Piggie and Elephant fanatic this book is a perfect goodbye. Favorite characters return, including that slippery Pigeon. Piggie and Elephant reaffirm the embodiment of friendship and love. More importantly, Mo addresses the reader, young and old, and hails the symbiotic relationship between reader and character.

I harrumph and ask, “Why?”

Through the years, I've collected each new book as they are published. Now I've finally added the last and final book to this loving series, and it feels...overwhelming. I'm sadden that it's come to an end. Though, my sons and I will be re-reading this for years to come. ♥♥♥

Rose was such a good person in this book, I thought Eric was good for her, I am glad for the kind of relationship that they had and the acceptance from her father. Don't want to give away to much of the storyline so go ahead and read. This book is a definite must read. Great job.

A COMING OF AGE STORY....true and intense!!!

This storyline to me reflects real life issues and decisions our young people deal with everyday. JSaint to me gives views from both sides...what happens when you make decisions with thought what the end result will be, and then what happens if you make decisions to hastily what the end result will be.

Great page turner with Good, Bad and down right Ugly situations but then, as young people we learn from our experiences.

Great job Jimmy!....I would love a sequel to see what's next. :-)

This book was so hard to finish I practical fell asleep reading it. The main characters were stupid and the story was not believeable. There is no way a stripper is a virgin and a man who is supposedly "king of the streets" that soft. This whole book was boring and a joke. please don't waste your money and buy it.

Not your average "fluffy" pop devotional

I usually don't read devotionals because they are too often trite snippets. But this is not your ordinary devotional! Each day is a selection from a different classical Christian author, such as Augustine, Bernard of Clairvaux, Bonaventure, John Bunyan, John Calvin, Francis de Sales, Francis of Assisi, John of the Cross, Julian of Norwich, William Law, Brother Lawrence, Martin Luther, Teresa of Avila, Thomas a Kempis, John Wycliffe, and more. The excerpts from their writings challenge key areas in my spiritual growth. Each day's reading is labeled by day of the year and falls into one of thirteen table of contents divisions: Beginning to Draw Near, Emotions Along the Way, Drawing Nearer to the Mystery of God, Drawing Nearer to the Love of God, Drawing Nearer Through Active Living, Drawing Nearer to God's Creation, Drawing Nearer Through Friendship, Drawing Nearer to God in Daily Struggles, Drawing Nearer to God Through Scripture, Drawing Nearer to God in Faith, Drawing Nearer to God in Humility, Drawing Nearer to God in Prayer, and Drawing Nearer to God in Christ. Good Stuff!

If you're looking for a good devotional, rich in wisdom and not lacking in spiritual insight from a good source, check out this book. I was looking for a good way to get my mind on track when I didn't know where to start out thinking sometimes about spiritual things....it just makes you stop and think on certain topics which otherwise might not come to mind within the course of an average day. If you have a moment, it will be enough to take a few seconds and read from this book. It's great.

I have been using this book as a review for cardiovascular physio - and I have to say it's great. I am only one chapter deep, but I kind of wish I had this book while I was in school, would have made things a great deal easier. Worth it if you ask me.

Good but missing an important element...

I have to say that after starting and owning two multi-million dollar businesses that Bradley Sugars knows what he's talking about. His books are the closest you'll get to actually getting the information you need to get started.

However, two things disappointed me about this book:

1) He states that you can't start a business with no money. This isn't true. I've done it TWICE. I started my first publishing company with a few hundred dollars. Within two years it became a $2 million per year empire. My second company was started with a few thousand dollars. Within 4 years it became a $5.4 million dollar empire. In my first fiscal year I grossed $566,000. You don't need money to make money. You just need to know what you're doing.

2) The whole premise of this book is to buy, build, and sell a business. You can't buy a business with no money. Even if you can swing a no money down deal on a business, you need money to build it. Even he admits that you need about $200,000 in your bank account before you consider building a business. So, how do you get the $200,000? You don't get it by working for someone. It's very difficult, if not impossible, to get a business loan from a bank. Venture capitalists will finance people with a history of business success, not a business newbie. Sugars doesn't fill in this gap. He complains that other books don't cover each step to success (business, investing, then true entrepreneurship)...but he left out a critical point: How do you get from NO MONEY to HAVING MONEY FOR A BUSINESS to even start?

This is a good book. It covers some critical information about business that I haven't seen in other books. However, it's missing a huge element (discussed above) that will be an issue for most people reading this book who don't have an extra few hundred grand lying around to start or put into a business.

Billionaire in Training was an outstanding book. From the very outset it challenged my thinking. The growth path of entrepreuers out lined is spot on. I found myself laughing at how true the senarios he was describing, are at play in my life and business. The three main points I pulled out of the book are that: 1. I need to generalize my work and have my employees specialize in their specific task. 2. There is a certain path to create wealth for me, my family and my business. 3. I need to detatch my self from my business emotionally. My business is not me, it is an entity that I own and work in. I would highly reccomend reading Billionaire in Training. I will surely refer back to it, as well as read it again in the future.

This book is marketed at the boards- Im a veterinary student in Ireland. I did find certain parts of it relating to - "Only found in mid western region" etc not very helpful but on the whole this book is great. It gives concise, pertinent and diagnosable information for the veterinary student....would also be useful for the practictioner as a quick reference to update or brush up on information.
I have found in very helpful in the problem based learning modules we have to take in college. Its not the most detailed book in the world and would never be used to supplement as a textbook but as an overview and quick reference its great.
